Affiliated Managers Group, Inc. Appoints Darrell W. Crate as Chief Financial Officer

BOSTON, MA, May 1, 1998 -- Affiliated Managers Group, Inc. (NYSE: AMG), an asset management holding company, announced today that it has appointed Darrell W. Crate as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Prior to joining AMG, Mr. Crate was a Managing Director in the Financial Institutions Group of Chase Manhattan Corporation where he focused on the investment management industry, both domestic and international.

William J. Nutt, AMG's Chairman, President, and CEO said: "Over the years we have come to know Darrell very well through our close relationship with Chase. We are extremely pleased that someone of his abilities both in corporate finance matters in general, as well as the investment management industry in particular, will be joining AMG as Chief Financial Officer. We welcome the addition of Darrell's expertise in financial analysis and capital structuring as well as his strategic perspective on our business."

AMG also announced that Brian J. Girvan, the company's Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, has resigned to take a senior position at Fidelity Investments, where he worked prior to joining AMG. Mr. Nutt stated: "We wish Brian the best in his new position. We greatly appreciate Brian's tremendous efforts and contribution over the past year in AMG's transition from a private to a public company."
